While preparing for a book table at the recently-concluded Manila Conference on Theology, I thought it would be useful to introduce others to the Reformed faith through a booklet that has essays on Reformed basics.
Today, I picked up from the printer 100 copies of the Westminster Confession of Faith Tagalog-English Diglot Version. Anyone interested in getting a copy may write a comment here or email me at dvopilgrimatgmaildotcom. The cost is 120 pesos, and the proceeds will be used to print more copies.
Calvinism "offers a rock-steady deity who orchestrates absolutely everything, including illness (or home foreclosure!), by a logic we may not understand but don't have to second-guess" and that "our satisfaction—and our purpose—is fulfilled simply by 'glorifying' him."
"Apart from election, no one will be saved because we are all totally depraved. Election compels evangelism. Election leads to holiness. Rejecting particular redemption leads to a confusion among the Persons of the Trinity in the work of salvation." -- Dr. Joel R. Beeke
After persevering through the catechism and review classes, and 1-1/2 to 2 hours of interviewing by the elders, Maria Teresa Cadaoas, Jill Abarra and Russel De Guzman: welcome to the San Carlos United Covenant Reformed Church family of Christ!

Because they are so used to listening to the latest dispensational prophecy seminars, most evangelicals are disappointed and baffled when they hear that the "last days" and most chapters of Revelation encompass the period between the two comings of Jesus Christ, and not the seven-year tribulation period before the Rapture. Even more baffling to them is the teaching that the "signs of the times" are to continue within the inter-advental period, now over 2,000 years in duration.
In contrast to Philip Yancey's three qualities of an "alive" and "healthy" church - diversity, unity and mission - are the three marks of a true church - gospel, sacraments, church discipline - set forth by the Protestant Reformers.
Who were these Waldensians who, with their small numbers and poverty, defied powerful Rome for five centuries with their firm and clear message of living the Christian faith only according to God's Word? Who were these faithful believers who would put today's evangelicals, with their gospel of prosperity and happy-clappy worship, to horrible shame?
