Twilight Saga and Beatles as Worship Songs

Tonight I went to a Christian high school’s final concert of the year. I thoroughly enjoyed the symphony orchestra especially when they played Mozart’s Symphony No. 40 First Movement. But that was it.

The highlight (or lowlight) for me was the guitar class, which was introduced by the teacher. He said that they will play a worship song, a Twilight Saga song, and a song by the Beatles. Then, just to make me even happier, he said the Twilight song sounds and feels like a worship song, but only Jesus Culture’s “Happy Day” is the real worship song:

Oh happy day, happy day
You washed my sin away
Oh happy day, happy day
I’ll never be the same
Forever I am changed.

These words remind me of an old hymn favorite, “Blessed Assurance”:

This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior, all the day long.

Perfect submission, all is at rest
I in my Savior am happy and blest.

Now, that “happy day” when I made Jesus my Savior is the start of a life of “perfect submission” and of being “happy and blest all the day long.” Since everything’s perfect after that “happy day,” Jesus Culture people will “never be the same, forever changed”!

Actually, that song sounded like a nursery rhyme compared with Twilight Saga’s “A Thousand Years.” This is a nice song fit for American Idol. And it could really be a “worship song” with a bit of tinkering of a few words:

And all along I believed I would find you,
Time has brought your heart to me.
I [will love] you for a thousand years,
[I'll] love you for a thousand more.

(I’m so lucky to hear about my favorite eschatology subject in a high school concert.)

Then they played one of my all-time favorites, the Beatles’ “Here Comes the Sun.” Obviously I’m totally biased, but this is the best song for a worship service:

Here comes the Son;
Here comes the Son, and I say
Jesus’ all right.

So, what are you waiting for, Hillsong lovers? We need a remix of these Twilight and Beatles songs. Don’t get me wrong, I love guitar music, especially the flamenco kind.
