Add to this moralistic therapeutic mix Ed Young’s “Sexperiment” and Mark Driscoll’s pornographic dreams. Christless pastors, in Christless megachurches, producing Christless “Christians.” And what do you have?

Moralistic Therapeutic Church

Excerpt from a church poster (from "Christless Christianity" by Michael Horton, page 49)

Mark Driscoll, Ed Young and company. They’re all obsessed with MTS preaching.

Sociologist Christian Smith coined the term “Moralistic Therapeutic Deism” to describe the default religion of American teenagers, and I suspect, that of most evangelicals worldwide. Kenda Dean, Professor of Youth, Church and Culture at Princeton Theological Seminary, describes what this religion is all about here.

Many of today’s pastors also preach moralistic and therapeutic sermons. Be like Joseph or Josiah or Jesus. Avoid Jacob’s deceitfulness or Jeroboam’s wickedness. Don’t throw away your self-confidence. Five ways to analyze your teenage daughter. Moralistic, therapeutic preaching.

Ed and Lisa Young conduct a live 24-hour webcast from a bed on the rooftop of Fellowship Church in Grapevine, Texas. From ChristianPost.com
