time-daniel_smAn aide to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the media focus on the idea of a two-state solution to the Israel-Palestinian conflict, favored by President Barack Obama, is “childish and stupid.”

Yes, the Rapture Index creeps higher anytime an Israeli PM visits Washington. A rapture fan(atic) speculates that if President Obama’s peace timetable is set at 7 years, we might as well flee to the mountains and wait for the Rapture, because he is surely the Antichrist who signs the 7-year peace treaty with Israel. This is how they interpret Daniel 9:24-27—Scripture interpreted over morning coffee and newspaper. (For a sound interpretation of this text, click here and here.)

But Scripture interprets Scripture, not the newspaper interpreting Scripture. The author of the Holy Scripture, the Holy Spirit, is the only one who could interpret his own writings for us. This is the interpretive principle used by the authors of these three papers:

“The Israel of God” by Dr. R. Scott Clark, professor, Westminster Seminary, Escondido, CA

“The Church and Israel” by Dr. Michael S. Horton, professor, Westminster Seminary, Escondido, CA

“The Wittenberg Door” by the Faculty of Knox Theological Seminary, Fort Lauderdale, FL

    PRETRIB RAPTURE RUSTLER

While you’re wondering why everyone featured the “Tribulation Index” (using the essence and not the title) for 1800 years before a Nebraska “rustler” changed it into the “Rapture Index,” check out “Pretrib Rapture Dishonesty” on the “Powered by Christ Ministries” site. But gulp down some tranquilizers first!

It is interesting to read the notes in the Geneva Bible published more than 300 years before Schofield’s rendering.

27 And he 1shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to 2cease, 3and for the overspreading of the abominations, he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

Notes: 9:27 1 By the preaching of the Gospel he confirmed his promise, first to the Jews, and after to the Gentiles.2 Christ accomplished this by his death and resurrection.3 Meaning, that Jerusalem and the Sanctuary should be utterly destroyed for their rebellion against God, and their idolatry: or as some read, that the plague shall be so great, that they shall be all astonied at them.

Wout, today’s evangelicals know next to nothing about the historic Protestant faith, much less of historic eschatology.
