I’m reposting an old devotional from my longtime friend Keffie Simon:

"Soul Descending into Hell" by Michelangelo

Of False Teachers

But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction. And many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of truth will be blasphemed. And in their greed they will exploit you with false words. Their condemnation from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep.

But these, like irrational animals, creatures of instinct, born to be caught and destroyed, blaspheming about matters of which they are ignorant, will also be destroyed in their destruction, suffering wrong as the wage for their wrongdoing. They count it pleasure to revel in the daytime. They are blots and blemishes, reveling in their deceptions, while they feast with you. They have eyes full of adultery, insatiable for sin. They entice unsteady souls. They have hearts trained in greed. Accursed children!

These are waterless springs and mists driven by a storm. For them the gloom of utter darkness has been reserved. For, speaking loud boasts of folly, they entice by sensual passions of the flesh those who are barely escaping from those who live in error. They promise them freedom, but they themselves are slaves of corruption. For whatever overcomes a person, to that he is enslaved. For it would have been better for them never to have known the way of righteousness than after knowing it to turn back from the holy commandment delivered to them. What the true proverb says has happened to them: “The dog returns to its own vomit, and the sow, after washing herself, returns to wallow in the mire.”

Most of you “bible experts” think and analyze too much about theological doctrines, trajectories, church history etc.” but you can’t see that you are also making an idol of your biblical knowledge too much and does not see the grace of God from our Evangelical Christian brothers and sisters.

Does it really matter if you are a Calvinist or not? A Presbyterian, a Pentecostal, a Methodist or a Baptist?

You can boast all you like about the label “Reformed” and the teachings of the “Reformers” – I for one will stick with the Bible!

When we close our eyes at the end of our journey and opens it in the next life with God, will God ask if we have spoken in tongue, prayed to heal the sick or made the storm stop? Will it matter if we have teached all the theologies of the world or learned it or argued about it? Will it matter if we fed all the hungry, counselled all the distress and heavily burdened or will it matter if we sang all the praise and worship songs? Will all that matter?

What’s annoying is your absurd criticisms of Preachers and Evangelist. Granted the false teachings of Warren and Osteen. I myself don’t agree with them anyway but rather making the insults your calling…you should present the Gospel to the lost!

I think we should be open-minded instead of criticizing him (Osteen), are we doing our share of ministry around the world or even praying for the destitute first in our own backyard and extending to our family and neighbors. Let’s not judge him for if he is not doing right i think God is not asleep but is fair and just.

This whole thing has become just plain ridiculous.  Grow up!!!  What do you get from “winning” the argument? Is our spiritual life a cosmic version of the Boy Scouts? Other than this pointless and quite random rant, I am totally speechless.

Wow, you people are a laugh-a-minute. What a dour, dry-as-dust vision of Christianity you depict. The fallen and broken must be breaking down your door.  Where is your relationship with Christ?

I reckon that you are a snobbish hyper-Calvinist by the way you sound and the overall “air” about you. Have meet many of them, and I am not against any of them. but i sure do hope that the meekness and grace that is in Jesus Christ will be made more manifest. After all, you and I names the name of Christ… We are here to bring Him glory and honor, and not flaunt of our self-imagined predestined “chosen-ness.”

The labels of heresy have basically boiled down to mere slander/libel – they hardly mean anything today in Christian circles; besides, Jesus was deemed a heretic too. Gird your loins and use scripture to refute him!

We cannot judge anyone to be hell bound for God alone can do that. What the Lord taught to His disciples and to all His children is to love one another yes even our enemies.

In truth we have not obeyed the Lord’s cardinal doctrine of loving one another. We have mustered the bible but still hate our brother. What is Love? Paul eloquently defines it in 1 Cor. 13 and we must apply it rather than continue to debate such unimportant issues like we have.
