There are many misunderstandings and false teachings about the Second Coming of Christ. What then are the basic teachings of the Bible about the Second Coming?
I donâ€™t want to be left behind in all this excitement about the unfolding of prophecy right before our eyes on CNN and CBN, so I say, â€œMe, too!â€ Are dispensationalists the only ones who keep revising their prophecies? So hereâ€™s an update of two old posts regarding how Biblical prophecy must be interpreted.
Our text concerns the sixth seal, in which demonic forces assemble at the place called Armageddon. Two great forces, Satanic forces and Godâ€™s holy people, meet here for the final battle on the great day of God. And like the persecuted Christians in the first century, we who are Christâ€™s soldiers are warned to watch and always be prepared for this God-appointed battle.
How is it possible that perfected, heavenly humans who are unable to sin can produce people who will later fall into sin?
Ezekiel 38-39 is a prophecy of the Assyrian invasion of Israel in the 8th century B. C., and this invasion is typological–a foreshadow–of the great persecution of Christians by unbelievers throughout this present age until Christ returns.
In Revelation 9:1-11 we read of locusts that come out of the abyss. If we try to over-interpret, weâ€™ll end up saying these are Apache helicopters, with the teeth being .50 caliber machine guns, the hair being the fire out of the exhaust pipe, the breast-plates being the titanium armor, and the tails being tomahawk missiles. This misses the point entirely as this vision had meaning for the first-century believer.
Many who oppose evangelical Zionism rejoiced in the recent McCain-Hagee debacle. It can’t get better than this, they think.
